Dr. Raven's Happy Hour with Magnus...

Magnus

Semper Fi

by Jambrea Jo Jones

Blurb:

Colonel Joe “Magnus” River’s sole purpose in life is to protect the United States of America. It isn’t just a job; it’s his reason for being. Magnus’ life is turned upside down when he is informed a woman will be joining his team of elite marines. She made it through boot camp, but can she make it through Magnus?

Nothing in NCIS Special Agent Emily Patterson’s career could have prepared her for Colonel Rivers. Her orders: infiltrate the Colonel’s team and find out who has been kidnapping women and children from third world countries and selling them as sex slaves. A string of unexpected events changes everything, potentially exposing Emily before she finds the guilty party. Her mission becomes more difficult as she gets to know the man behind the uniform. Magnus can’t be involved, can he?

Excerpt:
(Unedited)

“All clear, Alpha.”

“Back to base, double-time.”

The soldiers made it to the camp without incident.

“Sir…sir!” Patterson called.

He stopped and she ran right into him

Ten feet and I could have been in my office. Goddamn it.

He didn’t turn around. “What seems to be the problem, Patterson?”

“I need to talk to you, sir.”

“Then talk.”

“Um…could we go into your office?”

He nodded, continued to his office and didn’t stop until he sat behind his desk and she stood at attention in front of it.

“At ease, Lieutenant. Talk.”

She stood at parade rest, but didn’t look relaxed.

“I thought we were on a real mission today, sir.”

“Are you questioning me, Lieutenant Patterson?”

“No, sir.”

“Let me ask you a question, princess.”

She started to say something, but he could tell she thought better of it when she pinched her lips together and stood straighter. He had to fight his grin.

“Sir?”

“Why are you here? Why the Marines?”

“Permission to speak freely?”

He waved her on.

“Because Daddy said I couldn’t do it,” she said with malice in her voice. “I’m here to prove him and everyone else wrong. I can do this.”

“Daddy trying to make it easy for you? Paving the way to a combat troop?” he taunted, knowing full well she’d paid her dues.

“I did my time on Parris Island. I deserve to be here”

“I’ve been over your records, Patterson. The General showed them to me before he put you on my team. I know you’re a solid Marine, but you shouldn’t be here. My team is on the front line. You’re a distraction we don’t need.”

He looked to see if she would respond, but she said nothing.

Mag continued, “What happens when you miss the target and go down? My men would be worried about protecting you, not fighting the enemy. I can’t have that. Our lives depend on trusting each other in a fight. Just last month you shot Stewart in a mock exercise. Today your ass wiggled so far in the air I’m surprised the patrol didn’t spot it. You aren’t ready.”

Patterson stepped forward and put her hands on his desk, placing her face-to-face with him. He cocked a brow at her and wondered if she realized she’d broken protocol.

She leaned in and spoke in a low, soft voice. “I’m ready, Sir. Put me on the line. I’ll do my job.”

His body reacted in an unexpected way. His cock rose to attention.

Goddamn it! Down, boy, nothin' to see here.

Mag brought his face so close to hers they were almost nose-to-nose. He spoke just as softly. “You are not ready. You will never be ready. Go home now before you fucking kill someone or end up dead.”

He watched her shiver a little and his cock throbbed in answer. It took all his military control not to kiss her. When her tongue eased out of her mouth to lick her lips he thought he would lose his military bearing and he almost groaned, but caught himself.

No fucking way is this happening.

She never dropped her gaze and he respected her just a little more for that. Most men couldn’t hold his glare. She wasn’t afraid of him, he realized when she didn’t back down.

Well Fuck.

“What was that, sir?”

He must have spoken aloud. He needed to get her off kilter. Mag leaned in closer so their noses touched, his lips pressed almost on hers. Her breath mingled with his.

“Get the fuck out of my office. You’re dismissed. If you know what’s good for you, you’ll go home.”

Then she did the unthinkable. Patterson’s tongue touched his mouth as she moistened her dry lips. He couldn’t help it. He tried, but before he could think, his tongue met hers for a brief second before they both pulled away. Patterson stood at attention, saluted him, spun around and raced out of his office as if the devil himself followed on her heels.

“Shit. Fuck. Goddamn it!” He slammed his hand on his desk. “No way is this happening. No fucking way!”

Good morning everyone,

As you can see, Colonel Magnus is having some issues with NCIS Special Agent Emily Patterson, so he's been ordered to visit Dr. Raven's office.  But before we begin, there are a couple of things you need to know.

First, this is the last place Magnus wants to be as evident by his demeanor when he first meets Dr. Raven, aka. The Blackraven.

Second, Magnus doesn't know that Emily is an NCIS Special Agent, so we must keep her secret.  As far as he's concerned, she's just a Lieutenant who's "fucking up" his team dynamics.

Third and most importantly, Magnus doesn't realize that I'm not a real doctor and his "session" will be posted at The Blackraven's Erotic Cafe, so be very, very quite.

With all of that being said, let me introduce you to the sexy, alpha male known as Magnus...

Magnus' Session with Dr. Raven

Dr. Raven:  Good morning Magnus! Thank you for coming to visit me this morning? Brigadier General Potter has told me a lot about you. I'm glad you agreed to come in and chat with me today.

Magnus:  I don't know why I need to 'chat'. I have better things I could be doing with my time.  I have men to train and a mission to complete.

Dr. Raven:  I see.  But before you continue training your men or completing your mission, Brigadier General Potter feels that we need to sort through some issues you might be struggling to resolve. Shall we sit? Would you like some coffee, tea, or me... I mean milk with your coffee?

Magnus:  *Mag arched his brow* I'd rather stand. I don't think I'll be here that long. And I'm fine, nothing for me.

Dr. Raven:  Okay, I can see this is a little uncomfortable for you, but I must insist that you have a seat because believe me, we're going to be here until I'm convinced that you should return to "training" your men and "completing" your mission. Are we on the same page, Magnus?

Magnus:  Yes, ma'am. *Mag takes a seat*

Dr. Raven:  See, that wasn't so hard.  Why don't we begin with why you're here and I don't mean because you were ordered to by the higher ups.

Magnus:  To be honest, ma'am, I'm not really sure. The General said I needed to come today, so here I am.

Dr. Raven:  Okay, I can accept that. Why don't I begin by telling you a little about my conversation with the General? Is that okay with you?

Magnus:  Is this really going to take long? *Mag looks at his watch*  Anything to get me back on the field, ma'am.

Dr. Raven:  Well, Magnus, how long this will or will not take really depends on you and how open you are to discussion about the issues that have been bothering you lately. Because, there are some issues, correct? Just watching you sit on my couch, you look a little agitated or would that be frustrated?  Your body is rigid, you have a frown on that handsome face of yours, those sleek muscles look all tense....well, you know I mean.

Magnus:  I'm sure that I don't understand. The only issue I have is the pain in my ass assigned to my unit. And it really isn't a problem. I can handle it!

Dr. Raven:  Hmm. Pain in the ass is an interesting choice of words. Just out of curiosity, how are you handling the "pain in the ass" assigned to your unit?  I mean, besides referring to the individual as a "pain in the ass".

Magnus:  I'm putting her through her paces. I'll make a marine out of her if it kills us both.  Sometimes she shows potential, but then she ruins it by fucking up. Pardon the language, ma'am.

Dr. Raven:  Is she not a Marine already and what is it that she does to "fuck up"?

Magnus:  Oh, she made it through basic.  I don't know how, but she did.  She seems to have a problem with every maneuver we run. She's going to get someone killed.

Dr. Raven:  Really? I would think that if she were a danger to her team or herself that she wouldn't have been assigned to your unit. I mean, correct me if I'm wrong, but you're in charge of an elite group of Marines. So, logic tells me that she must have done something, actually, she must have done a lot of things right to be assigned to such as special team of elite operatives.

Magnus:  But...there is something about her. No, never mind. Where were we?

Dr. Raven:  Magnus, let's cut the bullshit, shall we and pardon my French as you would say. Just looking at your face and body language when you speak of your "pain the ass" tells me that you have feelings for her and that's the real issue here isn't it?

Magnus:  She's a Marine, she just doesn't belong on the front lines  And...I can't have feelings for her. She is under my command.  It isn't happening.  It's against regs.

Dr. Raven:  Are these the defense mechanisms you've created in your mind to deny your feelings for the woman. What's her name? I'm no longer comfortable referring to her as your "pain in the ass"? She has a name, so what's her name?

Magnus:  She is 1st Lieutenant Emily Patterson.  There is no mechanism, we can't have a relationship, no matter...never mind.  What does this have to do with my training?

Dr. Raven:  Magnus, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you do have a relationship whether you choose to acknowledge it or not, and until you get your head on straight it has everything to do with your training because you're not only putting yourself at risk, but also your team. Are we clear Magnus? I just need to make sure we're on the same page.

Magnus:  Yes, ma'am. I understand you. *Mag clenches his fist* Our feelings don't matter. We live, breath, sleep and eat the Marine corps. That's where it ends. She's under my command until she is out of my unit. Therefore, she is off limits.

(Dr. Raven turns her head sideways and takes a long look at Magnus. His body was tense and he looked as though he wanted to punch something, probably her, but she wouldn't stop now.)

Dr. Raven:  What happened between the two of you? What'd you do, kiss her? I bet you even have a pet name for her, don't you? What is it? -- Little miss goody two shoes, Snow White...No, those aren't quite your style.  How about "Princess"? Am I warm, Magnus?

Magnus:  Damn it! How do you know about that?  And it wasn't a kiss...Not really.

Dr. Raven:  Ah...so I am right. You two kissed and now you're feeling guilty. And for the record. Magnus a kiss is a kiss. If your lips touched, tongues touched, you kissed, sweetie. It's kind of like that stupid saying, "I'm only a little bit pregnant." Either you are or you're not. So, tell me about the kiss and why you feel guilty? What led up to it?

Magnus:  She was pissed because we went on a mock mission and I didn't tell her first.  Hell, she didn't need to know.  Every maneuver is to be done 100%.  She wants to be on the front lines.  Man, she didn't back down.  It was beautiful.  *Mag tensed*  Shit. You aren't recording this are you?

(Dr. Raven sat smiling at Magnus for a moment before she answered his question.)

Dr. Raven:  No Magnus, I'm not taping this, but I am curious as to how Lt. Patterson, "the pain in your ass" gained your respect, and to some extent, admiration, so quickly?  I mean - considering she's such a "fuck up" and all.

Magnus:  I wouldn't say quickly and she does fuck up, but there is something about her that bothers me. *Mag hold up a hand* And not in a sexual way. There are two sides to that woman and she earned a little respect for not backing down. Most men quake in their boots when I get in their faces.  She barely flinched.

Dr. Raven:  Mag - may I call you Mag, it sounds like you think she's hiding something. Is that part of the reason you feel so guilty about kissing her and having feelings for her?

Magnus:  Yes, ma'am, Mag is fine. No, if I have to say it, the reason I feel guilty is because I'm lusting after someone under my command and that is wrong and would be considered an abuse of my power.  Shit, do we really have to talk about this?  I'm not good with this touchy feely crap.

Dr. Raven:  Yes, we do have to discuss this, but be assured that anything we discuss in this room stays in this room under the doctor/patient confidentially clause. Moreover, you're doing better now that we've gotten down to part of the problem with this touch feely crap. Now, let's get back to your last statement. You've said that you feel guilty about lusting after Lt. Patterson not only because she's under your command, but also because you consider it an abuse of your power, correct? How is it an abuse of your power if both parties are willing? I'm a little confused there.

Magnus:  I'm in charge and in control. Any action would be my fault, no matter if she is willing or not.  It is my duty to be above lusting after a woman under my command.  Fuck, this shouldn't be happening any way.  She shouldn't be here.  Damn it, what if she gets hurt?  My men can't handle that.  It's hard enough watching another man take a fall beside you, but a woman.  Someone who could be a wife, a mother or a sister.  Not on my watch.

Dr. Raven:  Magnus, how is Lt. Patterson getting hurt different from anyone else on your team getting hurt? She's a Marine and she knows what the risks are or she wouldn't be here. You speak of her being someone's wife, mother, or sister...What about your men?  They may be someone's husband, father, son, or brother.

The real reason you're so upset is because she takes away the two things you pride yourself on, being in charge and being in control. She messes with your reason because your emotions are involved, which in return makes you lose control. You don't want her on the front lines because the alpha male in you has been programmed to protect women, not put them in harms way. But, the only problem with your line of thinking is that you're underestimating the woman that I would bet my next paycheck on you're already in love with and that's what scares you the most. That's what has you shaking in your boots, isn't it, Marine?

Yeah, you're worried about her getting hurt, but you're more afraid of losing her. The only problem is that you can't lose someone you never had because you're not willing to accept what is happening between the two of you. Tell me if I'm getting warm, Magnus.

Magnus:  Fuck this! *Mag runs a hand over his face* I'm not in love with anyone. Yes, she fucks with my control. Yes, I hate giving that away. But I admit to nothing more. I worry about her the same as I worry about all my men.  What is with all this happy horse shit.  Is our time up yet?  I've scheduled a 10 mile run.  I'd like to be there.

Dr. Raven:  No, we're far from finished and you worry about her more, Colonel, because you're in love with her, which is the reason we're having this discussion right now. And guess what, you're not leaving until you own up to these emotions so that we can begin to deal with them. So, Marine, we can do this the easy way or the hard way. Personally, I have cleared my schedule for the day because I knew you were going to be a hard-ass - figuratively speaking although literally your ass does look fine and hard, but that's besides the point. So, quit stalling and start talking soldier.

Magus:  You get the General to take Patterson off my team and then I'll start talking.  Not a moment sooner. I can sit here as long as you can. *Mag crosses his arms over his chest.*  I'm sure the gunny can handle the run.

Dr. Raven:  Not going to happen Mag. I don't make deals. We can sit for a while, or I can call the general and let him know how uncooperative you're being and recommend that you don't go on a mission or conduct training exercises until I think you're mentally stable. Ain't life a bitch?  The balls in your court, Mag!  Ole buddy, ole pal of mine!

Magnus:  *Mag sighs and runs his hand over his face again.*  No matter what my feelings may or may not be, it is too early for love.  I want to fuck her, not marry her.  Is that plain enough for you doctor?

Dr. Raven:  Do you think love has a schedule? Week one we like each other, week two the fascination begins, a month a year later, we can admit we're in love. That's bullshit and you know it. Have you ever heard of love at first sight because I assure you it does exist and it's currently happening to you. You think I'm joking, but put aside the physical aspects of the relationship and explore your true feelings. Tell me what you thought of her the first time you saw her. Lust is the physical aspect, Mag. Love is what makes you want to protect her and why you feel so damn out of control. Take a moment, reflect, and answer my question. Humor me.

Magnus:  You mean, other than the fact that she screws shit up?  The fact that she is a damn good shot, even if she tries to hide it?  Why she's hiding it, I'll never know.  That fact that she isn't scared of me?

Dr. Raven:  Keep going...

Magnus:  Shit, Doc. that still doesn't mean I love her.  It means I respect her, sure, as much as I can. I still need to figure out what she is hiding.  Would I like to know her more?  Sure...but not while she is in my unit.  She's off limits.  One of the guys.

Dr. Raven:  So Mag, you have urges to fuck one of the guys as well because that's a whole other session.  You're scratching the surface Mag, dig deeper. What's your greatest fear when thinking about Emily Patterson.

Magnus:  No, I don't have the urge to fuck one of the other guys.  What's my greatest fear...?  That she'll die out in the field and I won't be able to stop it.  But, shit doc, I feel like that for all my men.  Does that mean I love them too?  Well...I do, in a brotherhood sort of way.  What more do you want?  That's all I have to give.  Call the General if you have to.

Dr. Raven:  I don't doubt you love all of them. But Magnus, what you need to ask yourself is whether or not the love you have for Emily is the same as the love for your men. Dig deeper, Mag. You're almost there? Besides the fact that she'll die because everyone dies and it's not up to you when it's someone's time, it's up to the Almighty, what are you really afraid of?

Magnus:  Losing her. There, are you fucking happy now? I'm afraid of losing her before I even had her.  God Damn it!  *Mag stood and began to pace.*

(Dr. Raven continued to sit and watch as he paced the room trying sort through all of the feelings that were bombarding him, all of the emotions he wasn't sure how to handle. She gave him a couple of more minutes.)

Dr. Raven:  Mag, how does it feel admitting for the first time that you're afraid of losing her before you have an opportunity to be with her on a man to woman level, not Colonel to Lt.?

Magnus:  It feels like shit because it can never happen.  The Marines isn't just a job for me, it is who I am. Without that, I'm nothing.

Dr. Raven:  Sit down, Magnus. My God, you're as stubborn as a damn mule. Does this job keep you warm at night? Does this job fill the empty hole that's getting larger and larger in your heart? Can this job hug you when you're having a shitty day and need to know that there's one person who is always on your side no matter what because personally I don't think so. And if you answer yes, I know you're full of shit. What the hell are you really afraid of? Being rejected?  Because if that's it, you've got to take the risk in order to be rejected buddy. Chew on that for a few minutes.  Why is it that you're willing to risk your life every day, but you're not willing to risk your heart to be complete, whole?

Magnus:  I'm not afraid of rejection. Being court marshalled or dishonarably discharged? That is something I fear.  And serving my country does keep me warm at night.  Also, a drink with the guys is all I really need. At least for now.  *Mag throws himself back into the chair.*

Dr. Raven:  That was a nice little speech, but pardon me if I'm not convinced. If you were so damn complete and happy with your country keeping you warm at night and your men and a drink being all you needed at night to feel whole, complete, then Emily would have never affected you the way she has and we wouldn't be having this conversation right now.  Mag, as you can see, my patience with you today is wearing thin, so why don't we backtrack a little bit. How much does her hiding something play a role in the conflict that's going on in your head right now?

Magnus:  Fuck, you're a tough bitch, Doc. What do you want? Tears? Not going to happen?  Everyone has secrets, as long as it doesn't affect my mission, I'm good with it.  Do I want to figure it out? Yes, it's like a puzzle where a piece is missing.  Don't worry, I'll find the piece and things will be sorted out.  Let's just hope someone doesn't have to die to figure it out.

Dr. Raven:  First of all, thanks because I enjoy being a "tough bitch".  I don't want tears, Mag! I want the truth! It's as simple as that! I. WANT. THE. TRUTH. And for your sake, I hope someone doesn't have to die either for you to get to the TRUTH.

Magnus:  We'll get there, but we need to finish our mission first. Lt Patterson needs to prove herself, then we can talk again.  I still don't love her. No time table, the feelings aren't there.  Am I saying they will never be there?  I don't know, and I'm not sure I'll be allowed to figure it out.  The military has rules.  I've followed them since I was eighteen.  I can't just go breaking them for a skirt.  Can you understand that at least.  How about we agree to disagree.  At least on the matter of Patterson.

(Dr. Raven sighs...)

Dr. Raven:  Mag, I'll give you that the military has rules. I'll even give you that you do need to finish your mission and solve the puzzle of what Lt. Patterson is hiding. I think that maybe if you can discover what she's hiding, it will help resolve some of the conflict going on in that knuckle head of yours. However, I disagree that you're not in love because buddy it's not only written all over your face, but also in every emotion that is radiating through your body right now. Therefore, we can agree to disagree at this point in time. But Mag, you will return to my office once your mission is completed and we will finish this conversation once and for all or I'll have Brigadier General Potter throw your ass in the brig so fast that it'll make that hard head of yours spin for days. Are we clear, Marine?

Magnus:  Yes, ma'am. Am I dismissed?  *Mag looks toward the door.*

Dr. Raven:  Dismissed Colonel! Until a later date...

Magnus:  Yes, ma'am. *Mag scrambles out of his seat and rushes out the door.*
